Soter makes a very interesting point in his below mail. There are huge
protests against thefts of temples and cow slaughter but there is absolute
silence by against illegal butchering of mangroves, destruction of
hills/fields for constuction and illegal mining. There were also protests
against the visit of a Portuguese ship and hypocritically the so called "
freedom fighters " even washed the sea waters saying it is has been polluted by
this visit. Yet these so called self proclaimed patriots are silent against
the destruction of Goa taking place under their very noses openly. If only
they had the same fervour and enthusiasm they could genuinely be called real
lovers of Goa.

Subject: Re: [Goanet] DESTRUCTION OF MANGROVES - A PROTECTED SPECIES
The illegal butchering of mangroves and polluting of water bodies does not seem
to witness the same decibels of nosie as that against cow slaughter. The rape
of a woman will not inspire the same intensity of protests as that is witnessed
after thefts of the temples. If there was little of that same fervour of
intolerance towards environmental destruction as that witnessed in hurting of
religious sentiments, then much of Goa would have been saved. But that would
not get in the votes and the money. When will Goans be declared a protected
species?
