7TH All Goa Mando Festival organised by Tourism Airline Management Education TAME, Goa in association with Department of Art and Culture and supported by Tiatr Aacademy Goa was held by a Pai Tiatrist Joao Agostinho Fernandes indoor Auditorium, Ravindra Bhavan Margao with a well attended audience who enjoyed the mandos till the very end. The festival was declared open with the lighting of ceremonial lamp. Noted Mando troupe leader Mr. Jose Maria Da Silva of Curtorim was presented the coveted TAME Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution towards mando and in particular for being a good lyric writer, composer and musician. Commissioner for NRI Affairs Mr. Eduardo Faleiro Commissioner for NRI Affairs who was the Chief Guest presented the TAME 2011 Award who felicitated Mr. Jose Maria Da Silva with a coconut, shawl and trophy. The Chief Guest Mr. Eduardo Faleiro in his speech stressed the need for preservation and promotion of all the music and art forms of Goa., Faleiro was happy that Jose Marria Da’Silva efforts were appreciated by TAME as a recipient and it this recognition that would help new talent encourage specially the youth to carry on the tradition. He said although Mando cannot strictly be classified as a traditional folk song it has been established in Goa for a long time and added that Dekhni, Dalpod, Fugdi, Dhalo contain the traditional lyrics and music of Goa. He congratulated the management of TAME Tourism Airline Management Education for holding the festival for the last 7 years. Earlier the Director of TAME in his welcome speech stated that this year the festival would be held sans competition but as a presentation and to motivate the troupe leaders the monetary reward was more than doubled. Mr. Tony Fernandes introduced the Chief Guest Mr. Eduardo Faleiro while Mr. Rudolph Noronha spoke on the achievements of Mr. Jose Maria Da Silva. Festival and Souvenir was released at the hands of Pervez Gomes. Mr. Bismark Torcato proposed the vote of Thanks The function was compeered by Dr. Bicaji Ganecar and Mr. Anant Angi who kept the audience spell bound with humour and short narrations on mando history.
