For those living along the NH17 at Porvorim, it is time to take a look at the
alignment plans once again. For once myself and Rajan were taken aback to see a
group of citizens rushing towards Cafe prakash to find journalists. They were
cursing that the influential persons behind the NH 17 Realignment movement had
managed to save their properties and pushed the alignment into their properties
on the opposite side. According to them the beneficiaries of this new alignment
which is in the pipe-line are some industrialists and a politician. So the
present alignment is made to go zig zag at porvorim with around 5 degrees shift
which is hardly noticeable on the plan but actually means a loss of around 500
to 600 sq. mtrs. of neighbour's land to benefit the politician and
industrialist. So Hyundai showroom and O Coqueiro gets saved along with the
former MLA's land and some other commercial establishements.
It was my Opinion published in the Herald a year ago that had exposed this
hypocrisy and self-interest of some leaders in the movement. The affidavits to
obtain construction licences after assuring that buildings would be demolished
in case the road is widened have now gone missing from the files. This is
incredible Goa while incredible Goans talk about fighting elections and
corruption.
