Taking cognizance of the representation made by the parents, Joseph Natividade Veriano Fernandes and Aruna Leopoldina Fernandes, the Home Department has directed South Goa District Collector G P Naik to urgently look into the matter and conduct appropriate inquiry into Randall’s death through the Sub-Divisional Magistrate. The Home Department has further directed the Collector to appraise the government about the same on completion of the inquiry at the earliest. In the representation to the Chief Minister, the boy’s parents pointed out that their son Randall had first joined the services as assistant waiter in November 2006 and started the latest contract in May 2010 and was to return to Goa for vacation in January 11. However, the parents were intimated on phone by the Mumbai- based agents of Costa Cruise Lines on January 7 that their son had died on board Costa Fortuna on January 6, citing his death as a result of hanging. The parents, however, has refused to believe the theory that their son has committed suicide. “Our son was strong, healthy and was a very independent and upright person and was of a strong mind and body. We do not believe that our son Randall has committed suicide and do not believe that the company and the processes followed by the company and other authorities are genuine”, the parents stated in their representation, while firmly believing that their son has been murdered onboard the ship. The parents drew attention of the Chief Minister to the fact that there are several Goans, who are working on cruise ships of various cruise line companies and the frequent news of deaths of such crew members at such a young age need to be investigated thoroughly so that foul plays and murders are brought to light. The district authorities are waiting for Randall’s body to arrive in Goa before taking the next course of action, including ordering a post-mortem examination by a team of doctors. --------------------------------------------- HERALD 09/02/11 page 3 --------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------- GOA CIVIC AND CONSUMER ACTION NETWORK ---------------------------------------------------------- promoting civic and consumer rights in Goa ---------------------------------------------------------- GOACAN Post Box 187 Margao, Goa 403 601 GOACAN Post Box 78 Mapusa, Goa 403 507 mail: [email protected] Visit: http://goacan.blogspot.com ---------------------------------------------------------- http://www.oheraldo.in/news/Local%20News/Parents-call-for-detailed-probe-into-Navelim-youth-rsquo-s-death/45519.html
