NATIONAL YOUTH CONVENTION AND SUVICHAR

A team of eleven N.S.S. volunteers and a Programme Officer represented the state of Goa at the recently concluded National Youth Convention and Suvichar, during the XVI National Youth Festival, 2011 organized by the Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, National Service Scheme in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Youth Development at Udaipur, Rajasthan from 12th to 16th January, 2011. The Goa N.S.S. Unit took up the responsibility of selecting and delegating the team to Udaipur. Two students were selected from the respective colleges: St. Xavier's College of Commerce ,Arts and Science, Mapusa; Saraswat Vidyalaya's College of Commerce and Management Studies , Mapusa ; D.M.'s V.N.S. Bandekar College of Commerce,Mapusa; Government College of Arts and Commerce ,Pernem and Narayan Zantye College of Commerce, Bicholim and were accompanied by Programme Officer, Ms.Ana Souza (St. Xavier's College, Mapusa ) and Indira Gandhi N.S.S. Awardee, Ms. Girisha Raikar (Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economics, Margao). Kits were provided to the team by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Goa .More than 250 NSS volunteers from all over the country participated in this program.

The Youth Convention was inaugurated by Mr A.K. Upadhyay, Secretary, Youth Affairs, Government of India. Other guests included Mr B.K. Sinha, Secretary, Rural Development Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India; Mr C.R. Keshavan ,Vice President, Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development ; Mrs Sarada Ali Khan, Director,Youth Affairs and Programme Advisor, NSS; Mr. Mohammed Azharuddin, MP and one of the most successful captains of Indian cricket; Ms. Sini Jose, gold medalist in the Commonwealth and Asain Games; Dr.M. S Gill, Honourable Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India; Mr. Rohit Kumar Singh, Secretary, Development of Youth Affairs and Sports, Rajasthan and Dr. S. Chahal, Vice Chancellor, Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur A talk on 'careers' by the resourse persons from Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development was the highlight of the Suvichar. A session on India's cultural diversity and integrity followed by a small program called "Bharat Ki Santhan" was also organized.
