Fantasies and Impressions by Peter Müller + Walter Hoffmann

Peter Müller was born in Munich, Germany in 1951. He began his professional career as a computer engineer and developed his passions for art and travelling at every opportunity. In 1997 Peter and his wife Erika Plate opened a gallery in Munich dedicated exclusively to contemporary Indian art. They had discovered this magical art form initially as collectors in the eighties and now blended it with photography - another of Peter's passions, discovered twenty years earlier in the Mediterranean. He advanced his skill and established a unique "view" throughout South America, Southeast Asia, Africa, China and India.

Peter's work demonstrates his own way of looking at creatures and things. He is able to perceive and transpose the influence of light, movement, proportions and moods. His impressions reflect both the beauty of colours and shapes as well as the volatility of encounters and the futility of persistence. Portraits often appear slightly distorted and subjects tend to feel that previously unknown or surprising parts of their being are revealed.

Walter Hoffmann was born in Augsburg, Germany in 1948. He has been involved with photography since his mother sensed a talent and gave him a simple box camera in his early childhood. In 1970, during the hippie-awakening in the East, he travelled by road from Europe to India and began taking highly perceptive photographs that chronicled more than the times but life and the inner self as well. Later as a journalist and on many trips around the world, he photographed mostly in a documentary style while attempting to explore the interior of things and show the essential.

Walter's images lead to patterns, colours, shapes and sections and to a path that can track down other, often unseen realities. He utilises intense, creative computer technology that typically fascinates and transports us next to the grandeur of nature and helps us encounter people in their lives. His favourite subjects include landscapes, sky, lakes, the simple things of everyday life, children, friends, animals, plants. He is often able to add the appearance of motion and stillness.

BavarIndia is a joint photo project curated by Julia Ziegelmaier in which the two Munich photographers, who met not in their home city but in Goa, combine their work: from Bavaria - beautiful southern Germany with mountains, lakes and picturesque villages and the subcontinent of India - inexhaustible, mystical and relentless. You will see and experience powerful images from both hemispheres - free from obsessive matching but always opening the doors of perception, learning and understanding.
