Khell Khell Carnival Khell Gone are the days where we had traditional and meaningful carnaval or intruz Kell or partio Now, the trend has changed to professional money making or commercial khells. This year, most will quote Rs.12,000 for about 90 minute show (3 partio). (Professional tiatr too charge around 12K) We phone one from Benaulim, he quoted 12K but willing to settle for 10K No traditional brass band like trumpet etc but on electric organ. Another fellow from Nuvem says nothing less than 10K
There were a few who would come down to 9K (last year lowest was 7K ) Carnival khell ads started appearing more than 2 months ahead of the Carnival dates i.e. 6,7 8 March. First we saw on Jan. 2nd , followed by Jan 16 about half a doz, next Sun it was about a doz and on Feb 6, there were about 30 and Feb 13 there were more than 3 doz ads. Today, 20th Feb there are about 31 ads. which could mean some are already sold out Many professional comedians taking part in this years Carnival khell. Popular amongst them are Com. Ben Evangelisto, Com. Michael, Com. Pitush, Com. Marcus, Com. Cyril etc Other professional tiatrists are Socoro de St. Cruz and his daughters Sonia/Priyanka, Evon, Fatima, Rosario de Benaulim, Michael de Siolim. Milagres de chandor, Hazel, Jack Rodson/Maria, Minin Mario, Rons, Simon Gonsalves etc (mind you, Com Humbert, Luis Bachaan etc too performed prve. year) Each khell group on an average perform at 15 places during 3-4 days of the carnival. Which could mean 15x10= Rs.1,50,000 in 3-4 days. Some perform up to 6 a day. Last performance of the day being around midnight. Most group blame the musicians for the high fees, one fellow said they charge Rs.32K (for 3-4 days) and another fellow said Rs.22k yet another one said 18K Here is the list of this year’s groups with their plays’ titles (3 in one line) 1.
