a clip - Church complex http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ROyVCpIetw
Osonnem (Assolna) Assolna church (1616) Our Lady Queen of Martyrs as we sing ladainh or ladin MARTIRINCHE RANNIE (Konkani) Regina martyrum (Latin) (see link in the end) I see that there are two cemeteries, one at back of the church and the other across the main road - shown in the clip Also, at the church complex, there is magnificent life size statue of ‘Christo Rei’ or Christ the King. The circular monument or shrine is entirely of white marble. At night, it must be even more beautiful under the high mast lights as can be seen in the pic. Don’t know why I had not been here earlier. Will definitely go there once again to cover the rest including river front etc As a kid, I somehow, remember visiting the nearby river where some people used to celebrate a sort of Sao Joao or sangodd? jumping in the water from a decorated floating platform (boat) in the river (wonder if they still do that now). Assolna is also Dr. Luis Proto Barbosa’s ‘manvondde’ that’s what my mother told me years ago, probably, one of the many Portuguese houses in Assolna. More Assolna pics to follow More historical info, particularly from 'osonnkar' welcome the clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ROyVCpIetw Ladin both in Latin and konkani http://joegoauk-pointofview.blogspot.com/ [email protected] for Goa & NRI related info... http://in.groups.yahoo.com/group/GOAN-NRI/ For Goan Video Clips http://youtube.com/joeukgoa In Goa, Dial 1 0 8 For Hospital, Police, Fire etc
