CLOSURE REPORT IS BEING FILED BY CBI AGAINST PARRIKAR

Union Minster of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions and Minster of State in the Prime Minster office Shri V. Narayanasamy informed Mr. Shantaram Naik in a written reply to his question that the CBI’s investigations in the case of Shri Manohar Parrikar, Ex-Chief Minster, Goa, and now Leader of Opposition, is complete and that the evidence has not been found to be sufficient to prosecute the case, and as such, a closure report is being filed.

The Minster further told Mr. Naik that nine cases are pending under investigation in CBI, Goa as on 31.1.2011.

CBI has filed 14 charge sheets in the last three years and the current year up to 31.1.2011, Minister said.

Investigations against Mr. Parrikar were being done under sections 409, 421, 423, 431, 432, 463, 468, 471 & 120 B IPC and Sec 10 & 12 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for irregularities found in the matter of Goa International Film Festival 2004.

Mr. Shantaram Naik, MP under whose Chairmanship, the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee had constituted a Committee to go into the irregularities committed during the Goa International Film Festival 2004, in a statement has said that the closure report if and when filed by the CBI, in the Court, should be opposed since granting of land belonging to Goa Government and worth crores of rupees to a private party to build a Cinema Theatre, itself attracts several penal provisions.

Giving the progress with respect to the other cases, Minister said that the case against Shri A. M. Alornekar, Supdt, of Customs, Mormugao, Goa and 12 others, the case against Sjro N. Chenchiah, then GM (Retd) BSNL,Goa, the case against Shri S.S. Pai, Branch Manager, Canara Bank, Siridao Brach Goa –Junior Manager, are pending for Prosecution sanction.

The case against Shri Sriram Meena, Sanitary Inspector, Mormugao Port Trust and one other is at final stage.

The Minster further informed Mr Naik that cases against Shri M.K. Farde, Asst. Provident Commissioner, Employees Provident Fund Organisation, Panaji Goa Shri Navo @ Nilesh Kano Shelko, Labour with Maintenance Development, BSNL. Quepem, Goa, Shri Suresh Vinayak Azgaonkar alias Suresh Vinayak Marozkar, Sepoy, Customs, Customs Housse Mormugao, Goa and his wife and Smt. Maria Fernandes, Examiner Customs, and others are under investigations.
