Hi all: While we fight intense verbal "battles" over Digu versus Parrikar issues, locals versus outsiders 'causes', GBA versus GPA, and what not... take a look at those currently rewriting the rules of the game. Not just in Goa, but in many other parts of India.
This is capitalism run amuck. You could call it crony capitalism, or whatever, but I suspect we don't even understand its full impact and clout. This story from the India Today, incidentally a magazine which built up a lot of credibility in its early days, but then took to being solidly pro-establishment and partisan in recent years, is about the spectrum and telecom scam. http://indiatoday.intoday.in/site/Story/130213/cover-story/2g-scam-investigation-involvement-of-telecom-giants.html But I think it gives a good insight into how economics ties up with politics, how ideology plays second-fiddle to crass self-interest, and how these players have survived *all* politicians in the country, despite their *supposed* differences, and what they are said to offer us.
