The good doctor writes: You are about right Sir, Mr. E. de Sousa; although your figures of degrees are slightly wrong (2 : 5 of 90 degrees is 25.+ : 64.+)In fact the figure is not a triangle, but a quadrilateral. I would state it is an ?Optical deceit?. Thanks, and I am happy that there is at least some intelligentsia in this forum. Response: Dear Dr. Ferdinando: There is nothing wrong with the calculations. Use an engineering calculator and you will get the same results. The wedges in question are triangular shapes. Obviously there are other composite shapes such as quadrilaterals in the pictures. Also deceit is deceit- "optical deceit" is not commonly used. What we are dealing with here is a puzzler based on an optical illusion. Now to resolve more substantial issues like poverty and population explosion in Goa... :) In the meantime here are some more optical illusions for your viewing pleasure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2-EB4PGUs8
