Carnival extravaganza at Goa Chitra with Jazz Junction featuring Fauzia Maria Beg from Germany
Bringing to Goa some of the best musicians in the world, the Great Music Revival concert series 2010-2011 presents another evening of musical extravaganza: a carnival special featuring Jazz Junction with the world renowned Germany based, multi-talented vocalist Fauzia Maria Beg on the 5th of March, 2011.
The Great Music Revival series is an initiative Victor Hugo Gomes, the curator of Goa Chitra, an internationally recognized ethnographic museum in Benaulim.
With Fauzia Maria Beg’s bass-playing husband Andreas Renz from Germany and the Russian saxophonist Matveev Ilaya joining keyboardist Xavier Peres, bassist Colin D'Cruz and drummer Lester Godinho of Jazz Junction, this is a line-up that promises to get the audience at Goa Chitra into a real carnival mood with some authentic Brazilian samba and Latin-tinged jazz standards.
Fauzia Maria Beg, a dark-haired beauty from India, is an awesome entertainer. She started her career singing as a young teen and became the regular feature act at the Oberoi Sheraton Hotel in her hometown Bombay. In 1989, she migrated to Germany, and soon she started a string of firm contracts with major show bands from around Stuttgart. With them, she toured all over Germany as well as adjacent European countries.
Her musical interests are unlimited, which allows her to pursue a multitude of freelance engagements in just about any vocal style. Latin-Jazz being her 'forte', she renders interpretations of classic Bossa Nova, Samba and Salsa tunes in the original Portuguese and Spanish. Her percussive scat-solos and percussion playing has brought her a lot of fame in the region. In her latest projects she is experimenting with fusion of Jazz and Indian elements. She also enjoys singing Soul and Retro-Pop and may surprise you with a Bollywood song. She is a regular feature at most jazz clubs in and around Stuttgart.
Jazz Junction was formed in Goa in the year 2004 by Colin D'Cruz. The band has a unique 'floating singer/soloist' concept offering a tight rhythm section for local and international visiting artistes. Over the years Jazz Junction and accomplished international artistes have together provided interesting and unique musical experiences to audiences at Goa Chitra.
