Woman crushed to death at Miramar HERALD REPORTER PANJIM, MARCH 6 In an exceptionally rash accident, a woman was killed on the spot when a speeding car ran over her and later turned turtle along the Dona Paula-Miramar highway. Panjim police stated that the accident occurred around 6 pm when the woman Shamim Bano (36) who was walking along the road was crushed to death by the Swift car (GA-06/D-1916). The driver Nelroy Fernandes (22) who was trapped inside the car was removed by the people while three others, who were accompanying him, made good their escape fearing the wrath of the furious crowd. Eyewitnesses said that the car had beer cans in it and possibly the driver along with three others was drunk at the time of the accident. Another eyewitness said the car was in such a high speed that after hitting the woman, it banged an electric pole which uprooted with the impact. A 108 Ambulance was called at the site which arrived immediately but refused to lift the woman as she had breathed her last by that time. The driver was meanwhile shifted to the ambulance before police arrived on the spot almost half an hour after the accident. "They were literally not looking at the body", the eyewitness said.
