Everyone looks for a souvenir to take back from this Paradise. There are so many remembrances that one can have of Goa. But a souvenir of Goan music hits can be one that would be treasured for long.

Goa has built its image as a destination for peace and quiet. Goa, of recent times, has also come to be known as the place where music reins. Slowly this Paradise is growing towards being India’s entertainment capital. So, Goa is now being looked upon as a favoured destination as well.

Going by the present state of affairs, everyone seems to be thinking: Destination Goa. The album that has some of the popular Goan hits put together in one place also happens to have the same name. It has a collection some of the most popular hits from Goa and all by Goan artistes.

Chris Perry gave to Goa melody that will always perpetuate the texture of Goan music. His creations Bebdo (Lorna), Maria (original vocals by Mohammad Rafi and Lorna) by Hriskikesh, Cu cu ru cu cu (original vocals by Tony Carr) by Pallavi; form a very important part of this album. Also included are a medley of the maestro’s songs put together by Rhythm-n-Blues, led by Lulu and Filipe fortes, and sung by Lulu and late James Rebelo.

Ashante, the song made popular by Goans who have lived their lives in Africa and the Portuguese song Cadizaza sung by Felix Flor, enlivens the soul of the Global Goan.

Dancing on the Moon is sung by the indomitable Seby. Seby takes wings as he dances his way to the moon, to his senhorita bonita.

Another interesting aspect of melody included in this souvenir is the Goan Acoustic Medley put together by Trio Orlando, which provides a few precious moments of nostalgia with some traditional Goan dulpods. There are also songs with themes of personal encounter. Elvis’s College Life and Acacio Sodcho Nam need a special mention.

Colva Yo by Ulhas Buyao, Marialinha by H Briton and Tandel re Tandela by Nephie Rod are some songs that keep the mood alive. The tune that identifies with Goa Undhra Mhojea Mama surely must find a place, and rightfully does, in this souvenir from Goa. The grand finale is provided with a very modern touch given to the song Juliana, which is set to a heady mix by DJ Vernon.

The album definitely has a modern touch added to it, despite its traditional character. This is surely one album that many would like to take back as it puts together the music from old and gives it a touch of the contemporary. (ENDS)
