I forgot to mention that there was a Goan ladies club (kudd) in Byculla-Magazaon area, but I forget its exact location. I visited to check out the women in my bachelor days (surprised!) The fact remains that I did but I went there for "official work". I was executive member of the Goan Socio-Cultural Association and I was entrusted the task of reporting back to the committee regarding complaints the association received. The club was run under the auspices of the GSCA. I went there and was well greeted and I heard their complaints in Konkani. The club was a "transition centre" for women who came to work to Mumbai from Goa. It had a small space and, hence, could not accommodate a large number of residents. With the exception of a few, other stayed there for a couple of months before moving out. Many looked for work as housmaids or in low-paying jobs. When Roland and I spoke a week or so ago on Byculla I mentioned it to him about the club. Roland had not heard of it. Thank god, for he would have gone there often :-) However, knowing his background he would any day preferred to park himself opposite the Regina Pacis Convent Girls Hostel aka Vincenta Maria Social Services Society. I knew a couple of girls who stayed there and, I must admit, they were good looking. Sadly I didn't chase them and don't ask me why.
