[Goanet] The origins of Byculla Byculla was once famous for ‘Ranni Bhag’ with it’s own zoo (Queen’s garden). First visited Bombay early 80’s I think and that was the time I have been to ‘Ranni Bhagint’ I still remember seeing ‘Ghoreddo’ or Hippo in its pond. The garden/zoo was not that famous at that time due to it dilapidated conditions etc (or the garden was not well looked after). The Byculla Church was not very far and one the week days was famous for novena.
Many ‘Kuds’ or Goan clubs are located almost within walking distance from Byculla. There was Velsao Club, Irani Chawl, near Mafatlal Mills. There was Cansaulim/Arossim Club at Mazgaon Bombay 10 and close to Umerkhandi. Little further under Railway bridge there was Agxi Kudd and very close to it there was a working women hostel (Bhailange Kudd) Immigartion Club (?) nearest suburban train station for this was Dockyard Road (on harbour line) VT, Masjid, Sonddas Road (Sandhurst Rd), Douckyard Road, Reay Road, Cotton Green etc are some of the stations I remember on Harbour line.
