The 9th Carnival Festival 2011 was presented by the Maharashtra Konkani Kala Sanstha (MKKS) at St. Paul’s Church grounds on 6th March 2011 from 6 - 10pm. A record crowd of over 1700 witnessed the spectacular show organized by MKKS.
The programme commenced with the arrival of Queen Mimi on a palanquin and King Momo on a horseback with their entourage who were welcomed in Western and Indian style.
The presentation gained momentum after the festivities were declared open by King Momo. This splendid show comprised of performances by Lorna, Sucurine, Kenny, Antonette and other artists besides the folk dances. Music was provided by Musik Machine - a live band where people danced-away to the popular numbers.
The highlight of the programme was the attendance of Bollywood legend who specially came to do the Mumbai release of Konknni Cholchitram - a book of Konkani films by Isidore Dantas. The author briefly highlighted the contents of the book. Speaking on the occasion, Helen recalled her pleasant association with Goans and the shooting of the films in Goa specially Gumnaam and ended with salutation in Konkani. On this occasion, Helen was felicitated and a memento was presented to her by Mr. Evans Fernandes, President of MKKS. The gathering tasted the tongue teaser-snacks and lip-smacking plated dinner.
