RE: Goacan: <[email protected]> While it is heartening to note that GWF has taken strong exception to the SEXYGOA website, I was dismayed to find that my Mobile Service Provider, AIRTEL sent me the following SERVICE message from their Customer Care Number:
"Spicy Russian Models - on The Beach...Waiting .. only for You. Click @ Rs. 50 http:202.46.201.113/ar3/6/un/amanda50.jsp " Now isn't this message portraying women as 'saleable or available' commodities? While the message is not explicit, it is certainly suggestive. I could not check the contents of the website as it is a Java based application peculiar to mobile browsing, not that I had any intentions to do so. So I called up customer care and I landed up with getting a call centre operative whose knowledge of English/ Hindi was somewhat deficient. So I did the next best thing, I sent them an email complaint. As was to be expected, I got a reply acknowledging my complaint and telling me that they would revert to me in 24 hours. So far, its been more than 3 days and no prizes for guessing, there has been no reply. Tomorrow, I intend to complain to the Women's Commission if I can find their email Id. This is one of the many such service messages I received. One of the suggestions made by AIRTEL in reply to my mail was to 'block service messages' Now isn't that a bit too much? -- Tony de Sa. tonydesa at gmail dot com ^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v
