CREATE A PROVIDENT FUND FOR MINING TRUCKS: Shantaram Naik, MP, wants export
duty on iron ore reduced because truck owners could be affected. Truck owners
make life worse for lakhs of Goans. When the latter come on the roads, the
truck mafia beat the aam aadmi, aurat and even chaccha-baccha. Rivona,
Panchwadi are recent cases in the point. They neither care for goverment nor
Court orders. Half of the truck drivers are migrants.
Yet, truck owners are also aam aadmi and their future needs to be secured by
creating a Provident Fund like corpus and not by reducing government exchequer,
which is used for poor people. Ore reserve is limited and mining could soon
stop. What will trucks do after that? Mining companies should contribute 30%
over and above the freight to such a Fund. This contribution forms only Rs 300
crore per year, a mere 2% of industry profit.
