Today women are more conscious of this problem. It has to be well understood by

You are on the mark. Indeed women are more  conscious of being over-weight.  At
first they attribute it to "a little gas.":=))

Men tend to be proud of being overweight. Some even claim "every great tool
needs a shed".

For a simplified understanding of weight, this supurlo goenkar says
"weight generally is the relation of calories consumed minus calories burnt.
Any
excess calories is converted to fat and forms weight-gain; and any negative
balance is weight-loss."

So to stay in a healthy balance and to loose weight, one has to do both -
reduce
caloric intake and increase burn-out (exercise).

An important point which I am sure you know, specifically intra-abdominal fat
is
believed to be the culprit of major diseases - diabetes, cancer, high
cholesterol etc.  Hip fat (usually seen in women) is not a major health
hazard.
And in some cultures this fat distribution is considered a sign of beauty.
