To,
Mr. Elvis Gomes,

Sub: Petition against the proposed Expansion of Kala Academy and the
felling of Trees.

We, the undersigned Councillors of the Corporation of the City of
Panaji, and other residents of the City, object to the proposed
Expansion of Kala Academy and the felling of Trees to make way for the
said Construction.

We express our deepest concerns as the proposed expansion fails to
take into consideration the additional Parking woes and the
accompanying traffic problems that will be created with it. The
expansion project also fails to take into consideration the
inconvenience that it will bring to the residents of nearby areas.

The concerned authorities have taken this decision without proper
application of mind. The authorities have failed to note that even
presently; there is limited parking space available for the general
Public who visit the Kala Academy Complex and the auditorium(s) to
attend shows, Tiatras, dramas, exhibitions, etc. That due to this
limited parking space, the Public is forced to park their vehicles
outside the Kala Academy Complex and in the nearby vicinity creating
commotion and noise which affects the peace of mind of the nearby
residents. The authorities have also failed to note that whenever big
shows are held here, traffic jams are caused on this road affecting
the free flow of traffic on this busy Campal-Miramar Road (D. B.
Bandodkar Marg).

We are deeply distressed that instead of making attempts to solve the
parking and traffic woes of the Public and the general concerns of the
nearby residents, the concerned authorities have ironically taken the
shocking decision to build an additional wing in the existing Parking
area of the Complex, which will result in creating further traffic and
Parking problems and inconvenience for one and all.

We are deeply disappointed that Trees which form the backbone of our
Environment and add luster and aesthetic value to the Kala Academy
Complex are being felled and we strongly object to this destruction of
our environment.

It is our hope that you, the lawmakers of our beloved city, will stand
up and strongly oppose the construction of this Expansion Wing and the
felling of trees. The city is counting on you.

Yours sincerely
Smt Bharati Heble
Councillor(Ward 13) and others.
