Chorus against Kala Academy expansion grows louder

PANAJI: Citizens across the state, along with Panaji ward councillors, have joined the chorus opposing the expansion of the Kala Academy, Panaji. In a memorandum to the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP), the citizens stated that the 'proposed expansion fails to take into account the additional parking woes and the accompanying traffic problems that will be created with it'.

The memorandum further adds: 'We are deeply disappointed that trees which form the backbone of our environment and add lustre and aesthetic value to the Kala Academy complex are being felled and we strongly object to this destruction of our environment.' The memorandum has been signed by former tourism minister Matanhy Saldanha, BJP general secretary Siddharth Kunkoliekar, social activists Pravin Sabnis, Sandeep Heble and Vaikunth Kamat, Floriano Lobo of Goa Su-raj Party, Antonio Lobo (Goa Environment Action Group), Ritu Prasad (GBA), photographer Prasad Pankar, Manoj Patil (Rotary club), Armando Gonsalves (Heritage Jazz), Kunal Sagarkar of NCP's youth wing, heritage activist Prajal Sakhardande, CCP councillors Vaidehi Naik, Bharati Heble, Shekhar Degvekar, Maya Talkar, Sheetal Naik, Kabir Pinto Makhija and the residents of Campal.
