Lucano Alvares posted: re Get a grip, India! - Vivek Menezes : Look, the fact is that cricket barely qualifies as an international sport. There are a billion and a half subcontinentals who’ve been fed cricket, cricket and more cricket for decades – the very definition of a captive audience – so there’s steady interest here.
RESPONSE: I did not want to write about this World Cricket Cup - as almost everything I wanted to write was written by others. This post has prompted me to write a few words a: Well done Indian Cricket team! Many others could have won it but you did it. That is no mean achievement. b: Well done the organisers and the spectators, especially in the three countries. You undertook a monumental task and notwithstanding the few incidents, you did well. Very well indeed. c: The two matches I will comment on, are the following Semi-final: India v Pak. India did not deserve to win, Pakistan deserved to lose. Four dropped catches off Tendulkar is what a losing team does. Final: Sri Lanka choked themselves at the start and India did the choking magnificently (despite Sreesanth). In short, India deserved to win and won. d: Disappointing is the animosity between Indian and Pakistani fans. e: Disappointing also to note that Indian fans are like the electorate i.e. fickle. They only support the team when the team wins. Hello! the team needs your support most when the chips are down. f: Such is the spirit (or lack of it) when it comes to Indian fans. g: If Indian cricket fans are unable to Get a Grip, How does anyone expect India to do so? About time the writer of that article Gets a grip! jc .
