-- Samir Umarye BICHOLIM APRIL 8: A 40 year old person from Kelbaiwada Mayem died in a sudden blast after the tank he was welding busted in the morning.
According to the available information the incident occurred at about 10.30 am. One Kundan Mayekar (40) from Kelbaiwada Mayem had a garage in his own house. Mayekar was assigned a job of building a tank over a vehicle (GA-01-Z-1278). Mayekar was trying to complete the welding work of the tank which was placed over the vehicle. Suddenly, there was a big blast which threw Mayekar on the ground. The eye witnesses told that the blast was such that even the land shook. Mayekar was seriously injured and was shifted to PHC Bicholim. But as Mayekar lost too much of blood and was also burnt he was declared dead at PHC Bicholim. The blast was so serious that the cabin of the vehicle was destroyed and the front glass also broke. "We suspect that the incident took place due to the pressure created in the tank during welding" Bicholim station fire officer, L S Naik told Herald "the exact cause of the incident is yet to be known but we are investigating." "The blast was heard throughout the village and Mayekar was thrown almost 15 mts away from the vehicle where he was working" Naik told "we were told that he was building a tank for kerosene on the vehicle but it is still to be confirmed." Meanwhile, the Bicholim police has sent the body for postmortem.
