Goa’s top most priority should be the setting up of a Lokayukta. Rampant corruption is Goa’s biggest obstacle to its overall development and prosperity. Even the high constitutional post of Advocate General in Goa has been surrounded by a mountain of serious financial and other irregularities. As to who has been Goa’s best Chief Minister may be debatable but as we complete 50 years of Liberation every Goan will agree that Mr. Digambar Kamat has been Goa’s worst Chief Minister. His has been the most corrupt and weakest government. There has been a total collapse in the administration. We cannot expect the bureaucracy to be honest if the political leadership which controls the levers of power stinks of corruption. A powerful Lokayukta may be the only way forward.
