-- Samir Umarye BICHOLIM APRIL 14: The famous zatra of Mulgao attracted thousands of people from Mulgao, Mayem, Bicholim and surrounding area who paid trubutes to goddess Kelbai on Sunday.
The unique feature of this zatra is that masks of four gods are placed in a peth (box) and is taken by the dhonds (devotees) to Mayem where it is kept for three days and after the Mayem zatra it is again carried back to Mulgao. "There are four masks of goddess which are taken in the peth and only after it reaches Mayem that the people from Mayem can celebrate their zatra" an organiser told "only in mulgao the goddess is taken through a peth while in most of the places it is in either kalash or palanque." The zatra began at midnight and the peth than proceeded theough Bicholim to Mayem. On the entier way the people paid their tribute by offering coconut and flowers. As per the available information the famous zatra of Shirgao where the dhonds cross the fire pire is held exactly one month after this zatra.
