I would like to ask Eugene if the same Rohan Sippy would feel confident in
making such a blatant film on the evils in Bihar, Kerala or Tamilnadu and dare
to screen it in those States?
Another important question is whether Goa is limited to Maria, Anthony, Tony,
.............. from a particular community who are in touch with the criminal
world? If actors smoking in a film can be an influence on the youngsters and
therefore a reason to ban smoking on the screen. Would such a film on Goa not
give ideas to people from other States?
Unlike some foolish activists, we are not concerned over the statement on women
and wine. We are disturbed about the larger implications, the portrayal of Goa
as a destination for criminality which ultimately leads to stereotyping of the
Goan people in the minds of other countrymen. For unmindful Goans it may be a
case of feeling excited that the underbelly is exposed in the film because the
coward Goan has no guts to stem the mess on their own. But what will be the
ultimate impression about Goa and Goans in the minds of viewers from other
States? Has anybody bothered to check that out?
