Konkani Cinema Day Celebrated

“In order to improve the quality of Konkani films, the producers and
directors must take the making of a Konkani film seriously such that the
Konkani film maintains a certain standard” stated Shri. Rajendra Talak,
producer and director of one of the commercially successful Konkani film
‘O Maria’. He was speaking as the Chief Guest on the occasion of Konkani
Cinema Day jointly organized by Tiatr Academy Goa and Dalgado Konknni
Akademi on 24th April 2011 at TAG’s Conference Hall, Campal, Panjim.
Speaking further he appealed to all involved in the production of
Konkani films to shed off the crab mentality and work unitedly for the
development of Konkani Cinema.
Shri. Premanand Lotlikar, President of Dalgado Konknni Akademi in his
welcome speech stated that the sacrifices of the pioneer of Konkani
Cinema namely A.L. Jerry Braganza who is known as ‘Father of Konkani
Cinema’ for producing and releasing the 1st Konkani film ‘Mogacho
Anvddo’ in 1950, should not go in vain and that he should be remembered
for his efforts to promote Konkani Cinema in difficult times.
Shri. Tomazinho Cardozo, President of Tiatr Academy Goa stated that
Konkani Cinema has not become commercially successful not because all of
them are below standard but because of the negative attitude of Goans
towards Konkani cinema. If we love Konkani and love Goan culture, then
it is the duty of every Goan to witness Konkani cinemas by paying
tickets. When this attitude is imbibed in us then only Konkani Cinema
will rise to greater heights. He also proposed the vote of thanks.
Earlier Shri. Rajendra Talak garlanded the portrait of A.L. Jerry
Braganza as a mark of respect to the Father of Konkani Cinema. Shri.
Walter Menezes compared the function.
The formal function was followed by a cultural programme of songs from
old Konkani Cinemas. The immortal songs were rendered by Socorro de
Santa Cruz, Sonia Fernandes, Clarissa and Maria Cardozo.
