The Goa Food and Drug Administration and WRD (Irrigation) are participating in te KFF for the first time The KFF was inaugurated on Friday 29 April at 10.30 A.M. by Sarvdaman Patel, President of OFAI or the Organic Farming Association of India, Mapusa-Goa, and a leading biodynamic farmer from Anand District of Gujarat. A panel of judges led by Sanjeev Kadkade, Head of the Institute of Hotel Management, and consisting of senior agriculture officers judged the fresh fruits in the competition sector of the Konkan Fruit Fest on April 28, 2011, in the pre-inauguration competition this evening. The response to this section is on a smaller scale than in the past due to many factors, the major one being a poor and delayed fruit crop this summer. The event is also being revived after a gap of two years. Many of the entries came through the Sattari, Pernem and Tiswadi Zonal Agriculture Offices while the other entries to the competition were brought directly to the venue by the farmers. A number of fruits like Baganpalli mango, coconuts, and the like have been added to the non-competition section of the exhibition. Membership forms can be obtained at the Konkan Fruit Fest venue, Dhempe College's Department of Botany, at Green Essentials Taleigao, with Rena Fernandes or Olavio Fernandes at th Directorate of Agriculture or with me at the OFAI office in Mapusa. The life membership fee is one thousand rupees only. It can be paid by crossed DD/cheque in favour of the Botanical Society of Goa payable at par in Panjim-Goa, or by cash against receipt.
