Panjim Promenade not safe anymore? Beautiful city promenade is not beautiful any more. Thanks to various government authorities negligence. During the recent CCP elections candidates/councillors promised clean Panjim. Some even talked about inposing ‘fines’ on whoever found defecating or urinating in the city. Once elected, who cares? What’s the point of talking about improving Panjim while neglecting these basic things? Is this a part of 'special Status for Goa' we are asking for?
FREE for ALL promenade All activities take place here. Often we have no place to move around as vagabonds etc seen occupying the pavement in the middle- day and night. They don’t eat at the restaurants, instead they carry food packs with them to be eaten at their residence i.e. promenade along with alcoholic drinks. For some, it is also their cooking zone. The promenade stinks of urine and other stuff. Sometimes the riverfront stinks terrible reminding us of Bombay stinking area on the way to Airport while travelling by both Road and suburban trains. Recently, the regular users of the promenade (walking, jogging etc) had to take diversion in order to avoid a area where there was a sick man lying for weeks on a bench. (promenade/bench parallel to Military HQ from the rear). Who to inform about this sick man? 108 does not accept such cases. Police knew about it too as the area was not far from the Panjim Police station The area around it was blood stained, urine, sputum, bandages etc. The migrant man appeared a runaway from hospital suffering from severe skin diseases with some open wounds. Many food packets seen pouring in from the passerby or even from the car occupants. But he was not interested in the food nor the money as he was too sick. He had no cloths on but just a blood stained white bed sheet We saw him dead under the same bench when police come to take his body. Nobody bothered to clean or disinfect the area. No such death cases are reported in the newspapers. God only knows how many such deaths occur on the promenade or elsehwere Don’t even know whether it is safe to use the promenade any more. Here is the pic This was taken on April 19 http://www.flickr.com/photos/dirtypanjim5/5689682348/ This is 10 days later (dead body half seen) http://www.flickr.com/photos/dirtypanjim5/5689111731/ Some more recent pics here http://www.flickr.com/photos/dirtypanjim5/ I always copy any dirty panjim pic to CCP Commissioner and City MLA on their email Ids I don’t even know if they get it or if they read it. So many young corporators recently got elected, I am sure they are all on Email. Will appreciate if any one forward their ID to me or you forward this to them. Save Panjim! Save Goa!
