DGP Bassi said that Goa's police force needs to be trippled from current 5000
to 15000.
This clearly proves that crime rate, law-and-order as well as illegalities in
mining traffic has jumped significantly up during the last 4 year rule of
Digamber Kamat.

Digamber Kamat, who is preoccupied most of the time with inaugurations, public
functions, visits to temples and Babas, trips to Delhi and solving problems
of mining barons, has no time for any other work. The administration has
slackened and police are concentrating only where there is money. Police force
is not available to prevent illegalities in mining and ore transport. But 500
police rush to help miners to suppress people affected by illegalities. Cavrem
is the latest case in the point.

Carmen Miranda has been advocating for quite some time that the CM must be
forced to resign, more so because of the excesses he fostered as the mines
minister, a position he has held continuously for last 13 years.

A year ago: Recall how arrogantly he told the 5 ladies of Village Groups of Goa
that he is not dependent on the votes of Goans and that he does not need their
votes. Sbsequently PI Gad of Porvoim lathi charged the demonstrators and
manhandled ladies.

He told the agitating people of Curchorem that he also feels like pelting
stones at mining trucks. He has been cunningly promoting the idea of violence
to the mining affected people, so that he could use the violence to rough-up
the agitators and to book them in crimes so that they are kept pre-occupied in
court cases.

The draconian Police Act is designed only to help miners, whose private
security will get extra powers to suppress people. Recently the mining
security at Cavrem kidnapped the reporter of Goan Observer, manhandled him and
damaged his camera.

Goa spends Rs 1200 crore annually on salaries and pensions of Govt servents.
This calculates to a cost of Rs 50,000/year/family for each of the 3 lakh Goan
families. With the addition of 10,000 to police force, the cost will further go
up.
