Fear of Regional languages One fails to understand the logic of Marathi medium schools is,that how English medium schools will sound their death Knell? Why they never objected to the proliferation of private English Medium Schools, for those who can cough up high fees and divide the society into poor and reach In fact the Marathi medium schools fighting for their very survival, received a short in the arm They are mortally frightened about themselves, showing misplaced concern about the other regional language Konkani . Konklani as a language survived 450 years of onslaught by the foreign oppressors and it is wrong to assume that konkani in devanagri script has resurrected it. Do we need urdu, kanada and Gujerati medium schools in Goa funded by the Govt.? Are the English medium protagonist asking for the shut down of Marathi medium schools? Then why and to whom do they want to preserve Konkani language?In a democratic country every one choice is to be respected It is patently illegal to refuse grants to English medium schools, especially, when the educational rules do not discriminate the giving of grants on the basis of language It is the legislators in particular have understood that English language is a window to future prospects, by admitting their wards in English medium schools What is this argument of deculturisation ? Does it mean that all the Nations using English language have lost their cultural roots ?The difficulties of shift/tansition from the medium is a real problem, It is not the success of a few that matters, but the wast majority that is at a disadvantage/ It is a hidden strategy that continuation of Konkani medium schools will ensure the survival of marathi medium schools They are apprehensive that students from Marathi medium will migrate en mass to the English Medium It means that pursuit of Marathi medium is not of of love or preservation of it ,but out of compulsion It is a little kept secret about the teachers employed in Marathi medium schools and their origin English is the language of higjher studies ,administration and courts and it is the only language that binds Indians The legislators must see reason like the DSE and make amends for the mistakes of the past with honour and grace.
