konkani beyond schooling What is the practical purpose after completion of studies with kon as one subject even ? employment as teacher at some level with further graduation ?Kon is a must at lower rung of services. They are the same children who have been speaking konkani always .How many cultivate interest in further learning the language Is there a wide choice of literature available on a wide variety of subjects or just a few novels only to sustain interest ? My 3 children with over 90 % marks in Konkani had no advantage of this language thereafter. In fact i repent for not allowing them to opt for French, which would have served them better in place where they are placed In professional education most of the student joining from other mediums are at great disadvantage and this will be supported only by the students and teachers, The books written in devanagri are bought by the Govt. and distributed to the rural libraries The demand for these books is least The schools are compulsorily forced to stock the libraries of school The writers are few and repetitive How many Konani dailies can be boast of in Devanagri script and their numbers in circulation. How many new schools are opened because of allurement of grants ? Only the DSE schools have switched over to Konkani medium due to benefits of scales for teachers When there was a choice the schools could have continued with more reasonable fee increase . Parents were not consulted . It was unilateral decision thrust on the unwilling parents. They had no where to go due to distances and economic reasons The transition from KG to Std I and Std V was painful and led to drop outs. Special divisions with English development and emphasis was possible only where there were numbers for a separate divisions At the end of the day still they could not cope up with others, The teachers were not trained to make the change and children were the sufferers due to lack of efficiency of teachers and no body was bothered The protest by the parents was suppressed by lathi charge and unconcerned management,They were carried away to go down in History for making this momentous decision and discretely encouraged emphasis on English while swearing on Konakni medium One day token strike to stress their desire had no effect The 450 years of oppression against the language did not obliterate it in spite of determined efforts. The people kept it alive by speaking and so the church and tiatrist and Romance writers at least in Goa.The official language act is still to be enforced The discrimination of Roman script is fueled by the protagonist of devanagri script, who limit the reach of konkani speaking population outside Goa It also divides the Goans vertically The variety of dialects confuse the students too The script of compulsory hindi subject is enough for National integration . The right of parents in a democracy is over ridden by a bunch of legislators , who are either ill equipped with knowledge to comment on the merits. or are indifferent and silent.To day Goans spread far and wide are sending their remittances and are employed with English language skills What is the Govt contribution to make it official language. Is it compulsory to conduct the proceeding of the House , record and correspond in Konkani Do we have reciprocal Kon medium schools in Maharashtra and Karnataka?
