Will the Mayor of the Corporation of City of Panaji Mr. Yatin Parekh not comply with one of his first promises of holding a Maha Sabha for the citizens of Panaji on the lines of the gram sabhas being held by Panchayats? .
Information furnished under the Right to Information Act has revealed that the Corporation of City of Panaji has not yet taken any official decision to hold a Maha Sabha. This has been informed by the Commissioner of the Corporation of City of Panaji Mr. Melvyn Vaz. It may be recalled that Mayor of Panaji Mr. Yatin Parekh and Mr. Babush Monseratte had on 15th March this year announced that to ensure transparency at the CCP, Maha Sabhas would be held to enable the people of Panaji encounter the Corporators on various issues. Although it is almost two months that the new Mayor has taken over one wonders as to why this important issue of holding Maha Sabhas has been shelved. Mayor Yatin Parekh should ensure that a Maha Sabha is held once a month so that the illegalities at the Corporation of City of Panaji could be highlighted. Such meetings would be an opportunity for the citizens of Panaji to question the Corporators on developmental works and publicly expose any wrong doings at the CCP. Infact such Maha Sabhas should be held by all the Municipal councils in Goa to ensure transparency, accountability and public participation in civic affairs.
