The students of Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai boycotted Environ
minister, Jairam Ramesh, over the adamant approach of the Manmohan Singh
government, which cleared the controvercial Jaitapur Nuclear Power Project.

The students pointed out that the scientifically and technically more advanced
states like USA and Japan were unable to safeguard the nuclear plants in the
event of tragedies. They pointed out that Indians lagged so much behind that
they could not even trace the illfated chopper of a CM for days together. Our
political system is corrupt, inefficient and lithargic and have no proven
history of tackling disasters, which were predictable. Due to our corrupt
system, managers are forced to cut corners in safety measures. With this
background, it is impossible that we will be able to handle nuclear
dissasters.

What has hppened in Mumbai is a trend setter. The question is when will our
students, artists, sportsmen and others start refusing awards and honours in
the hands of our Mines Minister, Digamber Kamat who has converted east Goa into
a GRANG CANYON?
