1. The hullabaloo that is ongoing with ENGLISH as the medium of instruction is nothing but a massive effort to SAVE MARATHI in GOA.

2. The Marathiwadas had it going for them at the cost of Konkani, the GOA's mother tongue, since time immemorial, even with the Portuguese blessing Marathi over Konkani.

3. That 'English' has come in as the rescuer of 'Konkani' to behead Marathi Mauxi once and for all has brought the Marathiwadas to the streets as a last resort to save Marathi in GOA. Having failed to take GOA lock-stock and barrel into Maharashtra, this is a death blow to them. When this breed is talking of KONKANI, as MOI they mean MARATHI.

4. No parent in Goa is going to send their kids to the dilapidated Marathi Medium Schools ever. They will all opt for English Medium. That is the sore point for the Marathiwadas.

5. I have always been solidly for KONKANI Medium Primary schools in GOA with English as an extended subject simultaneously so that the transition from Primary to Secondary is smooth and easy. I have always maintained that the language that the child has mastered from birth (mother tongue) is the best language to instruct the child in the formative years of the Primary School. Teach the child another alien language altogether to it ( in case of Goa, Marathi and English ) the child is bound to be confused and learn less what it should learn in these formative years. For those children who speak English at home (which is just 5% or less as compared to the bulk of Goans) this becomes an added advantage since these children also have mastered Konkani, it having universal influence on the child. (dual tongued child).

6. That Marathi or English is not Goa's mother tongue is an accepted fact. But I willingly want to go with ENGLISH as MOI in Goa because it will kill the devastating influence that Marathi has had DIVIDING GOANS. Marathi is a developed language. BUT IT IS NOT GOA'S MOTHER TONGUE as these Marathiwadas and communalists are trying to tell the people of Goa.

7. Konkani has survived for the past 450 years of the erstwhile Portuguese rule. It will always survive because it is Goa's mother tongue. Only Marathi will die without this added vitamin shot which the Marathiwadas seek in it being the MOI in Primary schools.

8. Eventually, this isolation of Marathi will lead to it being removed from the Official Language Act of GOA [Goa Su-Raj Party's number one priority] where it has been given an unofficial and undeserving share with Konkani as the Official Language of Goa.

THIS IS WHAT GOANS UNIVERSALLY WANT. i.e. TO PUT THE CROWN ON KONKANI ONLY AS THE STATE LANGUAGE OF GOA AND GOANS. AND THIS WILL COME TO PASS, EVENTUALLY.

Subject: [Goanet] WILL ENGLISH MOI CREATE A PARADIGM SHIFT IN GOAN POLITICS?

Dear Rajendra

Politicians not only in Goa but all over India just love to turn and twist the simplest of issues into ugly communal and religious ones. They are known to do anything and everything possible to divide the people so that they can rule the roost. Even then people willingly try to jump into this bottomless pit head on.

I have a lot of regard for my good friend Rajendra Kakodkar, he has been upto
his neck fighting for Goa's causes, an active member of the GRA, with a good
head on his shoulders. His post "ENGLISH MOI CREATE A PARADIGM SHIFT IN GOAN
POLITICS ?" Has some truth and I fully agree with him when he says, the support
of the Catholic MLA from south Goa for English as the MOI is nothing but
politically motivated. There are also a few raw areas that I do not agree in his
post.

What we need to look at, as Goans, is where do we stand today in this once
paradise called Goa and what is good for the future of our children and our
land. Unity is the key and we should not fall prey to the communal, religious
and personal agendas of our conniving corrupt politicians.
