Maria Susiraj is getting lot of media attention in India after walking off free (though she spent three years in jail) in the Grover murder case, just as Casey Anthoy is getting lot of media attentiuon in the US for her acquittal in the death of her two-year old daughter. Caylee. In the first case, Maria was guilty of destroying evidence but no as accomplice in the murder. Her boyfriend got 10 years. In the US case, Casey got away because the prosecutors could not say for sure she killed her daughter, who was reported missing to police six months after she disappeared. Some years ago the Jessica Lall murder case got wide publicity in India. The Anil Grover case is compared to the Nanavati case. I remember the Nanavati case very well. I was a youngster then but the case caught my attention just as it did the nation's.. It was a love triangle involving Commodore Nanavati, his wife Sylvia and her lover and Nanavati's friend Ahuja, a businessman. Nanavati went to the police and said something like, I think I killed a man. Nanavati was sentence to life imprisonment but was given the Governor's Pardon by Vijaylaksmi Pandit. He and his wife came together and moved to Toronto, Canada. He kept a low profile and refused interviews. I tried my best to get one. He was employed in the insurance industry. I am told he attended few gatherings and Parsi festivities. I think his life was made into a movie, though I can't remember the name. Even Jessica Lall is portrayed in a movie and now Maria Susiraj. A movie on Goa's own Nadia and the Micky Pacheco saga perhaps?
