" Joe lOBO" <[email protected]> : Gabe, In answer to your question : "What are the chances of of a goan getting so much credit...................... ? " Zilch, Nothing, Nil !! Maybe those goan businessmen and shopkeepers who rush to serve any white-skinned person ahead of local goans who are patiently waiting for service, will learn a lesson from this episode.
COMMENT: Joe, Gabe, The way our Goans from Pernem to Canacona run after the white skinned is disgusting. Starts at the airport with the cabbies. They rub their hands in glee. Here comes a 'bakra', easy meat. Then it goes on to the hotels and resorts where the room boys and the waiters and captains and stewards and managers and the whole lot of them fall at their feet. Each of these has a specific target. With some, it is the lure of sexual gratification, with others it is the tips and yet others how they can milk the milch cows who are captive and receptive to their baits. Take Souza Lobo's at Calangute. At one time it used to be a favourite for good Goan food. For the past so many years, a few of us locals have been avoiding the place like plague. Given the fact that the place is packed with 'Goras', you have the hope of a celluloid candle in hell of getting service. There have been instances when tables have been booked in advance but these have been taken with impunity and given to a group of goras. Any other service sector is the same. The way our locals bend backwards sickens me. "Strangers in our own land" is a good title for a story. -- "Tony de Sa" < tonydesa at gmail dot com>
