PANJIM: Goa an internationally acclaimed tourist destination is ironically not preferred by quite a few of the Indian States, as it has failed to promote high end tourism, a Union Tourism Secretary, Rina Ray revealed at a seminar 'Protecting Children in Tourism: Role of Goa Children's Act', at Caritas Hall, St Inez, Panjim, Friday.

Ray who earlier served in Goa , stated that Delhiites don't follow the Goa model of tourism as it caters to low end tourism.

Ray stated that Goa does not figure will in people's travel plan anymore. Domestic tourists now prefer travelling to states such as Kerala, Ladakh and the North-eastern States.

" Generally, other states including Delhi do not wish to follow the Goa model of tourism, as it promotes inexpensive facilities for tourist and does not bring value addition to the economy as well as the society. It is exploited negatively," she told a gathering in the presence of Archbishop Filip Neri Ferrao.

She suggested that on an experimental basis, the State should stop charter flights from UK, Russia and Israel that mostly brings in droves of low end tourists. Ray, who has lived in UK for a couple of years, clarified that she is not against any country.

"We need to invite tourists who can give value added benefits and benefit our economy. The State can talk to the Union Ministry of Tourism and reputed travel firms during the ban period and after two years, there will surely be an improvement. We will get good quality tourists, top industrialists, diplomats from India and abroad. The educated and cultured tourists can certainly help the economy flourish, and save the State from being robbed," she advised.

The Tourism Secretary even suggested launching charter flights for diplomats from Delhi to Goa.

She stated that Goa is equipped with vital infrastructures for promoting tourism such as gold courses, beaches, historical monuments and other places, and it should be preserved.

The Goa government should keep the beaches clean, develop gold courses and drive away cheap tourists who do not bring value addition," she stated further.

COMMENTS:

Three Cheers to Rina Ray, indeed.

You have come a long way from conniving with Manohar Parrikar - Nandkumar Kamat combination wanting to Privatize the Miramar Beach. In case you have forgotten, let me remind you that, Ms. Ray. And now, you want to "drive away the cheap tourists who do not bring value addition" ?. Did you think that Miramar Beach, when privatized, would bring in wealthy Industrialists and Indian/Foreign diplomats and golf coursing high-ended tourists? You have not changed a bit in your outlook, Ms. Ray, for, you are still spelling out MONEY. Frankly speaking, this we accept with warm hearts and loving embraces.

You, Ms. Ray, are yet to send me 'the lawyer's notice' that you promised to send me, this at the Rotary Club of Panjim at Caculo Circle, Remember? Because I had told you on your face that ' this venture that you are promoting in connivance with the two above mentioned rascals was nothing but a 'money making racket'. One thing that you will not forget in a jiffy are my words ' MAKE MY DAY'. Sandeep Heble is a witness to this.

Rina Ray is welcome to help the State of Goa to drive away the useless, unwanted Indian 'low budget' tourists and the multitude of beggars flocking into Goa to lay it wasted. We shall give her a sturdy Goan 'broom' which has been proved to be very effective in even driving away the 451 years long-standing Portuguese. And along with this cheap breed, she will do well to broom away Goa's cheap freedom fighters, internet scientists and Hindutva/RRS zombies who are in fact, keeping away the rich industrialists, high ended golf coursing foreign tourists and diplomats. But one word of caution, Ms. Ray. Goans will no longer tolerate Indian Government sponsored from Delhi, foreign and Indian diplomats to visit Goa to splurge in luxury, drink like fish, eat like hungry pigs and make merry at the cost of Goa's tax-paying public , YOU INCLUDED.

You may boast of having lived in the UK for 2 years. For you kind information, there are people in Goa who have been around the world for a life-time.
Capice???

Cheers
