Bethany sisters open centre for civil services aspirants
July 15, 2011 The Bethany Sisters have opened a study centre in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, to help young men and women prepare for the civil services examinations. Though the students will get coaching in professional centres in Delhi, the study centre will provide them with a library and computer facilities. Residential facilities will also be provided to these students. Presently three women and seven men from Arunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Gujarat, Karnataka and Kerala are attending the study centre. “Empowering young people, especially young women, to serve the Church and the country through Civil Services is a response of Bethany to the signs of our times,” said Sister Maria Leena, Provincial Superior of the northern province, at the inauguration of the centre at Disha Bethany on June 30. “Disha Bethany was selected to meet the students’ needs for residential facilities combined with a study centre,” she added. The nun said that proximity to Delhi combined with favorable study environment could enhance the capacity of the students for positive results. Jojo Mathew, director of Alternative Learning System, one of the leading IAS training institutes in India, expressed his willingness to work with the leadership of the Church in the formation of the youth for civil services. “I am ready to share my expertise and resources to train the youth with required skills provided they work hard and are willing to follow the guidance given,” he said. He also offered to subsidize the training costs for Disha Bethany students as part of his commitment to the cause.
