Dr Anil Desai needs to be commended for quickly condemming the move of the
Education Minister of Karnataka to impose the Bhagvad Gita on students in
Schools under pain of expulsion of students and their families from India.

Such type of persons must not only be condemned but also be dealt with all the
force and majesty of the criminal law of our country for inciting enemity
between religious communities as also provoking dissaffection amongst citizens
of India. They must be also denuded of public office for being in breach of
their oath to the Constitution of India.

We pity the plight of our great country being divided along religious
affiliations. Personally speaking , the Bhagvad Gita has been a source of
information in the conduct of human affairs on Earth, which I have perused with
great benefit and respect.

On another note cant resist quoting KAUTILYA as cited in the Arthasastra at
1.19.34  in another age of Indian history "IN THE HAPPINESS OF HIS SUBJECTS
LIES THE KING'S HAPPINESS; IN THEIR WELFARE  HIS WELFARE. HE SHALL NOT CONSIDER
AS GOOD ONLY THAT WHICH PLEASES HIM BUT TREAT AS BENEFICIAL TO HIM WHATEVER
PLEASES HIS SUBJECTS"

Since contemporary India is a REPUBLIC the word "SUBJECTS " could usefully be
read as "CITIZENS" and "KING" as the "GOVERNMENT" . This would help preserve
the relevance of this great work. Even otherwise in ROMAN LAW it is axiomatic
that: WELFARE OF THE PEOPLE IS THE SUPREME LAW"

Unfortunately there still exists some persons who are unable to comprehend the
tectonic shift of power  across human civilisations. To them may we recommend a
book by Alvin Toffler named "POWERSHIFT"

Gerry
