Gulab Awards 2010 presented
Margao: The Fr. Freddy J da Costa Memorial Gulab Awards 2010 were awarded to
a host of personalities at a glittering ceremony at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao
on July 20, which marked the 58th. birth anniversary of the founder editor
of Gulab late Fr. Freddy J. da Costa.
Director of Information and Publicity Menino Pires was presented with the
Gulab Man of the Year award, while the sportsperson of the year went to
Talasha Prabhu.
The Gulab Writer of the Year was awarded to John Aguiar. Other winners
include Comedian Domnick for best writer (Novo Dis Udetana), Prince Jacob
for best director (Kedna Utt'ttolo?), August de Panchvaddi for best music
(Beiman Kir), Pradeep Naik - Best Actor (Novo Dis Udetana), Aplon Rebello
Best Actress (Sogleank Nomoskar), Comedian Humbert - best comedian, male
(Kedna Utt'ttolo?), Best comedian (female) - Anita (Advogad), Rosy Alvares -
Best Singer (female) and Junior Rod - Best Singer (male).
The awards were presented to the winners at the hands of the Chief Guest,
Hon. Minister for Water Resources Felipe Neri Rodrigues and other
distinguished personalities in the presence of Gulab editor Fausto da Costa
and other dignitaries.
In his address, Felipe Neri paid rich tributes to late Fr. Freddy da Costa
for his yeoman service to build a society based on truth and justice.
"Fr. Freddy belonged to the whole community. He tried to build a community
based on truth", he said and complimented Gulab and Fr. Freddy J. da Costa
Memorial Trust for its continuous efforts to protect the identity and
culture of Goa. "We politicians might have been found wanting, but Gulab
should continue the good work in serving the society", he said.
In his address, editor of Gulab Fausto da Costa said "the time has come to
ask ourselves whether we are doing enough for the development of Konkani
language. It is not enough to criticize the government for doing nothing for
the language."
Fabian da Costa Manager of Gulab proposed the vote of thanks, while the show
was compered by Mario Menezes, Franky Gonsalves and Baby Rioma Menezes.
An entertainment program was staged on the occasion.
