BICHOLIM Buoyed by public support to government funding of English as medium of primary education in the State, Congress Observer for Goa Jagjeet Singh Brar has said the central government has similar plans in most Congress-ruled states in the country. Brar, however, assured that Congress would keep the dignity of the regional languages intact and described Konkani as a “very beautiful and sweet language”. “We are in the process of implementing English as the medium of instruction in most Congress-ruled states in the country,” stated Brar, when asked how many states have English as medium of instruction at the primary level. Speaking to reporters along the sidelines of a public meeting of Mayem constituency at Hirabai Zantye Hall in Bicholim, Brar said: "Konkani is a beautiful language, but we have implemented English and we have a vision for the future. Those who don’t have such vision are worse than a blind person,” stated Brar. "Konkani is a very beautiful and sweet language. The Congress will keep the dignity of the regional languages intact,” added Brar. Mindful that the matter is presently in the court, Brar declined to comment further on the MoI issue.
