Response to Rajiv Desai: Rajiv, Is this lame lament the best you can do? I - and others - pointed out the schoolboy howlers in your blog post and highlighted your lack of knowledge of the background and cultural dynamics against which Goa's language issues are set. Then I set you right on your Macaulay whopper. So you "grew up respecting the enlightenment"? Good. Now would be a good time for you to actually absorb a little of that enlightenment. Hindus do not need the West to "set them free" of their societal evils. The most severe critics of Hindu society have been Hindus themselves, and there is a long, long tradition of these Hindu social reformers. But how would you know? You were busy respecting the enlightenment. Google "Akka Mahadevi" or "Basavanna." From those ancient reformers to modern Hindu critic-reformers like Swami Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi - the list is quite long. I, too, want the extant evils and inequalities within Hindu society and culture to melt away. I have no hesitation whatsoever in accepting that there is much within my own religious tradition that is rotten. I also love the West (more than you do). So - what is it that you were saying? You made it sound like you had an original thought or something. You call me prejudiced. It delights me no end to wear your scorn as a badge of honour. Your final sentence reveals that you do not deserve to be taken seriously. The biggest reason modern India and millions of Indians are today condemned to pauperdom is the Kangress party, the PARTY THAT YOU CARRY WATER FOR. Your Kangress people have sapped and continue to sap India's lifeblood. Did you get that or should I write more slowly? The vile Congress people you have cast your lot with and whom you continue to flog are cause of the untold misery we see in India today. All you can do is declaim your (Hindu) opponents, and whine when someone occasionally administers a dose of the reality vaccine to you. You wrote silly things awhile back about Mahatma Gandhi and I had dusted off the cobwebs in the interstices of your mind. Here - http://lists.goanet.org/pipermail/goanet-goanet.org/2011-February/205544.html And you see it fit to lecture us on "enlightenment"? Ha Ha Ha. What are you smoking these days? Warm regards, r
