At a glittering function at the Cuncolim Union Hall, Cuncolim, Ln. Rudolph Noronha was installed as the President of Lions Club of Assolna-Velim-Cuncolim (AVC) at the hands of Ln. Joaquim Da Costa. In his address the installing officer Ln. Joaquim Da Costa congratulated the Ln. Rudolph Noronha for the excellent work done by instituting several youth related projects during the last lionistic year and was commended the courage to take over as the as a President for the third term which is a rare feature and wished him all success. In his acceptance speech the President Ln. Rudolph Noronha outlined that he would continue the work of his predecessors and continue with the permanent projects – Career guidance, Youth Mando Festival etc. The Chief Guest Dr. Pradeep Naik professor and head of department of ophthalmology of GMC, who happens to be a native of Velim in his speech lauded the social work done by Lions Club of A.V.C. and also spoke on the present trends of eye care and said the Government mission and that of Lions International First Sight Programme were on similar lines. He assured that the Club should take advantage of the government schemes for the welfare of the people at large. He also suggested that NGO like Lions Club of AVC could conduct a civic sense of garbage amongst the local citizens. Meritorious Students were also felicitated at the hands of the Chief Guest -- Lions Club of AVC Scholarship was bagged by Miss Rashmi R. Shenvi Kunde of Maria Bambina High School being the Top Ranker amongst all the A.V.C. Schools ; Scholarship sponsored by Mr. Belarmino Antao for securing highest in Maths was awarded to Miss. Tanvi. G. Shenvi Kunde of Maria Bambina High School and late Professora Edlies Moraes scholarship was awarded to Miss Siddhi Ramesh Chari of Cuncolim United Higher Secondary School for being the topper in the Commerce Stream amongst AVC Schools. Each Student was handed over a cheque of Rs. 1000, a certificate and a Trophy sponsored by the Marto Lavita Braz Educational Trust. The club also honoured their tow charter members Ln. Frank Caeiro and Ln. Wolfango Mascarenhas, A Special Club bulletin was released at the hands of Dr. Pradeep Naik to commemorate the installation of BOD. Bossuet Torcato 1st Vice President, Ln. Bonney Mazarello – 2nd Vice President, Ln. Borromeo Moraes - 3rd Vice President, Ln. Dr. Francis Almeida– PRO, Ln. Nelson Fernandes – Lion Tamer, Ln. Luis Saldanha – Tail Twister, Ln. Bismark Torcato– Membership Committee Chairperson, Ln. Tony Fernandes – Quest Chairperson, Ln. Francis Braz – Jt. Secretary, Ln. Jose Almeida Jt. Treasurer, Directors Ln. Frank Caeiro, Ln. Wolfango Mascarenhas Ln. Benito Furtado, Ln. Farrel Furtado, Ln. Ravi Pillai, Ln. Dr. Sales Fernandes, Ln. James Pereira, Ln. Ravi Pillai and Ln. Cruz D’Silva. The club thanked the Cuncolim Union Officials Mr. Elvis Gomes, Mr. Sammy Tavares Mr. Ramesh Dessai and the office Bearers for making available the Hall for the event.
