TALK ABOUT TALKS There has been considerable interest generated with the on going talks with our neigbhour These talks as confidence building measures have led to no where to address the problems of terrorism In fact it is almost a ritual in high places, including the schedule and unscheduled meetings even with the Prime Ministers and Foreign Secretaries of the respective countries The belief in this diplomacy including games invitation are only for public consumption as there is no thaw in the relations of giving up known rigid stands The argument that each ones positions are better understood is hollow.The war of Kargil., attack on the Parliament, 26/11 and now 13/11, the train blasts and countless terrorists blasts are all sandwiched between the talks at all levels ,intermittently The Kasmiri separatists are given a free reign to malign the country and carry on subversive activities with impunity The talks are forced on both indirectly by foreign powers to satisfy their agenda of intervention. After 26/11 the Govt of India declared position was of not engaging with Pakistan unless the perpetrators of 26/11 are brought to book. Pakistant in all instances tries to water down our reports our requests, so that the evidence is brought to a naught. The present talks with the new foreign Minister was a stage show to launch her in her diplomatic debut, and not substantial at all. In fact the first meeting by her with the separatist has been disapproved ,if not condemned out right, so as not to derail the engagement The acquisition of nuclear capability and arms shopping of sophisticated weaponry is directed towards India , which the country can ill afford considering its state of economy It is also a tactic to force India to spend our resources on arms and on non productive sector, Pakistan is constantly engaged in low intensity war through the terrorist and home grown dissenters ,bleeding the country of its development. Pakistan has provoked 3 full scale wars on India besides the misadventure of Kargil India like a big brother showed its magnanimity also under foreign pressure to return the war gains The 90,000 P.O.W.in Bangladesh war were released without striking a bargain. Then why did India incur loss of material and human resources . in fighting wars and repulsing the enemy at a heavy cost? Pakistan cannot be trusted at all at the face value and in the light of past experiences. The army in Pakistan indirectly is at the helm of affairs feeding on with perpetual animosity against INDIA. The terror camps in Pakistan are directed towards destabilizing India and have not been dismantled in spite of proof The cultural exchanges ,trade and commerce, people to people movement and all civilian exercises do not in any way alter the reality of their tirade against India and its citizens The talks are always related and linked to Kashmir and not to POK. Why does Pakistan not put into operation their avowed right of self determination .,freedom, first in P.O.K to serve as a model.? Indian stand is not consistent and is wavering and the neigbhour finds it convenient to engage in mere rhetoric during talks. If the talks have not produced the desired outcome and there is no possibility of attaining goals the baby talks must be suspended unless specific issues can be achieved by such engagements Nelson Lopes Chinchinim 9850926276
