Os alunos do 2º ano do M.A. (Mestrado) em Cultura e Literatura Portuguesas da Universidade de Goa organizaram no passado dia 29 de julho uma Freshers Party, jantar de boas-vindas aos 5 caloiros do Departamento de Português que reuniu no Internacional Centre-Goa os alunos inscritos no M.A de 2006 a 2011. Entre os convidados destacaram-se o Senhor Cônsul-Geral de Portugal em Goa, Dr.António Sabido Costa, o Delegado da Fundação Oriente na Índia, Arq.º Eduardo Kol de Carvalho, e os Comendadores, Engenheiro Anil Counto e Dr.Jorge Renato Fernandes. O leitor do IC na Universidade de Goa, Dr. Delfim Correia da Silva, na apresentação da história mais recente do Departamento de Português, destacou alguns dos aspetos mais relevantes desde a sua reabertura em 2005. O Departamento de Português é ainda hoje o único em todo o subcontinente indiano, e um dos raros em toda a Ásia, a oferecer o Master of Arts em estudos Portugueses, habilitação académica imprescindível para os seus detentores, entre outras saídas profissionais, exercerem as funções de professor de Português na Índia ao nível do ensino superior. De 2006 a 2011 inscreveram-se no M.A. 34 alunos. De um total de 20 finalistas alcançados em 2011, onze assumiram funções docentes em diferentes instituições de ensino, escolas secundárias, como a Fr. Agnelo High School em Pilar, Loyola High School em Margao, colleges, como são os casos do St. Xavier´s College em Mapusa, o Don Bosco´s College em Panjim e o Smt. Parvatibai Chowgule College em Margão, e nas universidade de Goa e de Deli. Para além da docência, 4 dos finalistas foram contratados por multinacionais sediadas em Mumbai com clientes de países lusófonos. Entre os mais importantes acontecimentos e ações levadas a cabo pelo Departamento de Português, salientaram-se os dois cursos de verão, o 1º na Universidade de Lisboa, frequentado pelos 6 finalistas de 2008, e o ForLínGoa 201, realizado no passado mês de junho na Universidade de Aveiro, e que contou com a presença de 10 alunos. Deu-se ainda destaque às inúmeras personalidades académicas que visitaram o Departamento nos últimos seis anos, designadamente, em fevereiro de 2008, a delegação da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, constituída pelo Presidente Dr.Emílio Rui Vilar, pelo Dr.João Pedro Garcia e pela Dra.Isabel Alçada, os professores Manuel Ferro e Fátima Velez de Castro da Universidade de Coimbra, as professoras Maria Fátima Marinho, Isabel Margarida Duarte e Amélia Polónia da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto, e ainda os escritores portugueses Gilda Nunes Barata, Miguel Real e José Luís Peixoto. Foi ainda recordada a colaboração do Departamento de Português na Conferência Internacional «Garcia de Orta & Von Humboldt – Across the East and the West», realizada no International Centre-Goa, de 26 a 27 de November de 2008, que reuniu uma vintena de especialistas da Índia, Portugal, França, Croácia e Alemanha. Este projeto concebido e dinamizado pela Prof.ª Dr.ª Anabela Mendes da Universidade de Lisboa constituiu o evento de maior projeção académica em que se envolveu o Departamento de Português desde a sua reabertura em 2005. O leitor do IC agradeceu, em nome do Departamento de Português, os apoios prestados pelas entidades locais e portuguesas, nomeadamente o Instituto Camões, a Fundação Oriente e a Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, que, juntamente com a dinamização dos protocolos estabelecidos com universidades portuguesas (Universidade de Aveiro e Universidade do Porto), permitem acalentar as melhores espetativas em relação à prossecução de projetos futuros. Em 2010-2011 o curso de M.A. foi reestruturado de modo a se adaptar ao novo sistema de créditos. Assim, para além da introdução de novas disciplinas, orientados para uma mais adequada formação e preparação de futuros professores de português, o Departamento passou a oferecer quatro cursos opcionais de Língua Portuguesa (de 3 créditos cada) dirigidos aos alunos dos outros departamentos. O encontro, em ambiente de amena confraternização, foi um verdadeiro sucesso graças ao empenho e esmerada organização dos alunos do 2º ano, permitindo aos caloiros adquirir um melhor conhecimento da realidade do Departamento de Português, das suas virtudes e das suas limitações, e assumir a responsabilidade de continuar e se possível elevar a qualidade do trabalho deixado pelos anteriores finalistas. Dear All, I woul dlike to inform you that the 2nd year students of the M.A in Portuguese Culture and Literature of the University of Goa organized a Freshers Party on the 29th of July, a dinner to welcome the 5 newcomers of the Department of Portuguese which reunited its pupils of M.A. from 2006 to 2011 at the International Centre, Goa. Noted among the prominent guests were, His Excellency the Consul of Portugal in Goa, Dr.António Sabido Costa, Representative of the Fundação Oriente in India, Arch.Eduardo Kol de Carvalho, and the Commendadores, Eng.Anil Counto e Dr.Jorge Renato Fernandes. The lecturer of the IC at the University of Goa, Dr. Delfim Correia da Silva, in his presentation on the history of the recent past of the Department of Portuguese, stressed on some of its more relevant aspects since its reopening in 2005. The Department of Portuguese is till date the most unique in the entire Indian subcontinent, and one of the rarest in the whole of Asia, offering the Master of Arts in Portuguese studies, academic qualification essential for its holders, among other professional openings, to carry out the duties of professor of Portuguese in India at the higher secondary school level. From 2006 to 2011, 34 students registered for the M.A.course. From a total of 20 final year students who passed out by 2011, eleven took over teaching duties at different institutions of learning, secondary schools like Fr. Agnelo High School at Pilar, Loyola High School at Margao, Colleges, as in the case of St. Xavier´s College at Mapusa, The Don Bosco´s College at Panjim e The Smt. Parvatibai Chowgule College at Margão, and at the Universities of Goa and Delhi. Other than instruction, four of the degree holders, were absorbed by Mumbai-based multinationals with Portuguese-speaking clientele. Among the more important events and feats accomplished by the Department of Portuguese, the two summer courses stand out, the 1st in the University of Lisbon, attended by 6 final year students of 2008, and the ForLínGoa 2011, that took place in the month of June at the University of Aveiro, and witnessed the presence of ten students. He further emphasized the presence of several academicians to have visited the Department during the last six years, namely, a delegation of the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, consisting of the President Dr.Emílio Rui Vilar, Dr.João Pedro Garcia and Dr.Isabel Alçada, in February 2008, professors Manuel Ferro e Fátima Velez de Castro of the University of Coimbra, professors Maria Fátima Marinho, Isabel Margarida Duarte and Amélia Polónia from the Arts Faculty of the University of Porto and also the Portuguese writers Gilda Nunes Barata, Miguel Real e José Luís Peixoto. He also recalled the collaboration of the Department of Portuguese in the International Conference «Garcia de Orta & Von Humboldt – Across the East and the West», that took place at the International Centre-Goa, from the 26th to the 27th of November 2008, which brought together a score of experts from India, Portugal, France, Croatia and Germany. This project conceived and carried out by Prof. Dr. Anabela Mendes of the University of Lisbon constituted the event of major academic prominence in which the Department of Portuguese took part since its reopening in 2005. The visiting lecturer of IC thanked, on behalf of the Department of Portuguese, the support rendered by the local and portuguese bodies, namely the Instituto Camões, the Fundação Oriente and the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, which, together with the materialization of the protocol established with Portuguese universities (University of Aveiro e University of Porto), permit to settle the best views in relation to the pursuit of future projects. In 2010-2011 the M.A.course was restructured so as to adapt to the new credit system. Consequently, besides the introduction of new subjects, directed to the adequate formation and preparation of future Portuguese professors, the Department went on to offer four optional courses of the Portuguese language (3 credits each) directed to the students of other departments. The gathering, in an atmosphere of delightful fraternization, was a true success thanks to the diligence and faultless organization of the students of the 2nd year, allowing the freshers to gain a better understanding of the reality of the Department of Portuguese, its merits and limitations, and to shoulder the responsibility of continuing and if possible raise the standard of work left behind by the previous final year students.
