Government Primary Schools There are more than 800 Govt.schools spread over, the whole of Goa It is Govt. idea of providing Education to the poor and there is no different opinion about the responsibility of social dimension. With RTE to be enforced shortly these schools may be indispensable Most of the schools cater to Marathi Medium, and these unfortunate students and parents have no choice ,but take what they get The Govt. has abdicated its responsibility to promote more Konkani medium schools , since Konkani is the mother tongue and state`s official languag It is pertinent to know that the strength of the students is woefully low and they do not qualify to exist as per student to teacher ratio Even their most populated schools fall far below the normal requirement strictly insisted in private aided schools It is therefore reasoned to conclude that there is drain on resources, considering the infrastructure and human factor There is hardly any drinking or toilet facilities in these schools. It is more in the interest of the staff maintenance, as under similar circumstances in private aided schools , teachers are declared surplus and deployed where ever there is a vacancy. Many a times there are private schools in the vicinity , where these students could be conveniently enrolled in stead of incurring unwanted expenditure. These students could also be reimbursed all their expenditure. The single teacher norm is totally undesirable for conducive learning. The standard of teaching in these schools is to low. The supervision of work, attendance and monitoring is by remote control and not regular The arrangement to attach these schools to high schools in the neighborhood is not working satisfactorily due to lack of motivation. It is a said that the teachers teach by the sound and site of approaching Govt.jeep There are many teachers in these GOvt schools who are required to teach English as the subject in Std III and Std IV. Their proficiency is to be experienced and there is no attempt to recognise or provide in service training Hence Education in these many schools is a mere formality at a cost The nonviable schools lacking in student strength should be evaluated and closed The Govt is propping up teacher awards specifically to Govt Teachers to place them on par with Non Govt schools and that has not raised the standard or morale of these Govt schools attracting numbers
