To the best of my knowledge there have only been three persons born in
Goa who were made Cardinals:
Valerian Cardinal Gracias, Archbishop of Mumbai, appointed in 1953, born
in Navelim Ivan Cardinal Dias, Archbishop of Mumbai, appointed in 2001,
born in Velsao Oswald Cardinal Gracias, Archbishop of Mumbai, appointed
in 2007, born in Orlim
There is one more person born in Maharashtra but of parents of Goan
origin who was made Cardinal Joseph Cardinal Cordeiro, Archbishop of
Karachi, appointed in 1973, born in Mumbai BUT WHOSE FATHER HAILS FROM
SALVADOR-DO-MUNDO
All cardinals are members of some discastery of the Roman Curia or the
other. However, to my knowledge only Ivan Dias was holding a key position.
