Dear Mr. Hazare, I have read (somewhere) that 'the Road to hell is paved with good intentions'. Without specifically making a judgement call on the following, I invite you to advise (a) IF the following excerpt is accurate (b) IF you believe that it is OK to take the law in your own hands ref [A] : http://www.readersdigest.co.in/anna-hazare?page=2 He soon proved he meant business. A few days later when three men returned to Ralegaon drunk after a binge in a nearby village, Hazare had them tied to the temple pillars and personally flogged them with his army belt. The following also makes interesting reading: ref [B] http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics/nation/shiv-sena-leader-calls-anna-hazare-taliban-gandhi/articleshow/9508432.cms The ruling Congress-NCP state government later set up a commission headed by former judge P.B. Sawant to probe the charges against Jain and the then two ministers - Nawab Malik and Padamsinh Patil, who were named by Hazare. Justice Sawant's report, submitted in 2005, indicted Jain, along with Malik. Jain was forced to resign from the ministry, after which he slapped a defamation case against Hazare. "Who is he to speak about corruption? I had exposed his corruption rackets and that is why he agitated against me," Jain said. Following Jain's complaints of corruption against Hazare, the commission probed him. Hazare was also indicted under several counts of corrupt practices by the commission. COMMENT: While Ref [B] might be seen as a witch hunt against the crusader in you, Ref [A] is of great concern. For, your good intentions having been noted, there is NO WAY that civil society in a democracy can allow you (unfettered) to behave like the "Godfather". I invite to review the Second Treatise of John Locke s 143: "it may be too great a temptation to humane frailty apt to grasp at Power, for the same Persons who have ...... in their hands the power to execute them (laws), whereby they may exempt themselves from Obedience to the Laws .... ......" sincerely, jc ps: Would you please advise: WHAT provisions do you have in your proposed Bill which would prevent the LokPal from running amock? Who will "Pal" the LokPal? ps2: What have you said about the mining situation in Karnataka and Goa? ps3: Would you also, please provide open disclosure of direct or indirect support (funding and in kind) you have received and the parties you have received it from?
